How I Started
A native of Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico, I’ve been creating fetishes since the summer of 1996. My uncle, Gibbs Othole, a very well known fetish carver taught me how to create. I learned to sand first. Then one day he gave me a Picasso marble rock and told me to make something. The look and movement in the animals was something I didn’t think I could do with my hands, but I made the attempt. My first piece was a bear. Soon, I started to enjoy creating. I had been a painter and loved to draw wildlife, so that went hand-in-hand when I started carving. Gibbs took me to my first art show in 1997 to the Pasadena, Southwest Indian Market. My love for art and traveling took hold of my heart, and I never looked back. With Gibbs’ help I’ve learned the skills and mindset of making it my way of living.
